INTRODUCTION:
The Ministry of Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment
metamorphosed from the then Rivers State Employment Centre in 1992
through the Employment Generation and Economic Empowerment Bureau
to a full-fledged Ministry in July 2003 by the Odili Administration,
as a strategic government intervention to address unemployment, alleviate
poverty, mitigate crimes and criminalities such as restiveness,
kidnapping, cultism and contribute to the overall Socio-Economic development
of the State.
The Ministry is saddled with the core mandate of sourcing and securing
employment and empowerment opportunities for our Youths, as well as
identifying openings for their trainings and retraining into employable
cadre of acquired skills.
The Ministry is made up of five (5) departments: namely Administration,
Finance and Accounts, Planning, Research and Statistics, Employment and
Empowerment. The various departments have their contributing responsibilities,
which form the bedrock of the ministry.
